We rely too much on external organizations to make things happen but in reality it’s the collective force of global citizens that have the power to change lives

Peace21, an ethical social network that invites global citizens to sign an online petition for peace, was officially launched today. Its mission is to bring people together to end suffering and to spread happiness by creating a forum for likeminded people to introduce themselves, champion causes and share stories to a worldwide audience. The Peace21 community will also be encouraged to rejoice in life and take action through the following ways:
- Find missing people
- Celebrate new life
- Commemorate heroes
- Remember lost loved ones
- Champion good causes
- Join the exclusive 21s club and make a real difference
- Donate to Charitable projects
Damian Hateley, a UK entrepreneur, set up Peace21 in response to his belief in the power of social media to galvanise support for important issues. He hopes that the site will attract a million visitors by the end of the year and become an influential platform to promote peace.
“There’s a need to change the way the world is run,” said Hateley. “We rely too much on external organizations to make things happen but in reality it’s the collective force of global citizens that have the power to change lives. By bringing likeminded people together to sign their name to peace, this new site has the potential to become a significant force for good. I hope Peace21 will renew people’s belief that change is possible. A little change, in each individual life, can change the whole world.”
Peace21 derives its name from the official International Day of Peace, which is observed around the world on September 21st. The United Nations has declared this as a day “devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples.” The number ‘21’ is also the desired portion of profit that Peace21 encourages people to donate to notable causes. Peace21’s ‘21s’ club will be open to an exclusive group of site users, philanthropists and companies that pledge at least that percentage of their wages, bonuses or other form of income to charity. The good work achieved from donations will be celebrated online, as will the people and organizations that contributed to the causes. Peace21’s long term aim is to set up numerous charities and eventually become one of the leading resources for charitable activities around the world.
“We aim to bring peace to life and provide a platform for humanity to build and promote a more peaceful and respectful world, in everyday life and beyond,” said Hateley. “With the diversity and inherently good natured intentions of Peace21, we can become the world’s leading ethical social network. We want each person to share their passion, embrace life and be proud of the world we live in.”
