"Now is the time for Convoy of Hope to assist flood survivors as the waters recede,” says Karen Benson, global disaster response director for Convoy of Hope.
Springfield, Missouri (PRWEB) April 23, 2013
International relief organization, Convoy of Hope, has dispatched their Disaster Response Team and is sending multiple truck loads of debris clean up materials, food and other supplies to the flooded communities of De Soto, Mo., and London Mills and Marseilles, Ill.
In De Soto, south of the St. Louis, Mo., metro area, Convoy of Hope is targeting assistance to approximately 125 homes that have sustained damage. In the communities of London Mills and Marseilles, west of Chicago, Ill., around 280 homes have been damaged and are being assessed by the response team.
“We’ve been monitoring the flooding situation in these communities since last week and have determined now is the time for Convoy of Hope to assist flood survivors as the waters recede,” says Karen Benson, global disaster response director for Convoy of Hope.
A Convoy of Hope truck full of beverage and snack items, as well as three vehicles carrying debris removal supplies such as shovels, trash bags and bleach are expected to be in the affected communities within hours. An additional truck will depart later today or tomorrow morning.
Convoy of Hope’s disaster response teams are also coordinating closely with state and local officials to assist in volunteer coordination and to ensure the teams are assisting in areas where help is needed most. A tractor-trailer load of power washers is scheduled to be sent to the areas later this week. The response teams are also closely monitoring any further flooding potential in communities that may need assistance.
