There is no need to subject your body to harsh cleansing programs that leave you exhausted and unable to go about your day. Detoxing should leave you feeling energized, refreshed, and glowing!

On April 25, 2013, Yumi Media responded to a recent article posted on VegNews that discussed how one might detox their body from the ravages of junk food in order to pursue a more fulfilling vegetarian diet. The article offered an easy three day plan that will help cleanse your body without too much of a hassle.
“Detoxing does not have to be extreme,” says Sara Jane Mercer, author of the article. “There is no need to subject your body to harsh cleansing programs that leave you exhausted and unable to go about your day. Detoxing should leave you feeling energized, refreshed, and glowing!”
According to Mercer, when you begin your detox, you must eliminate all sugars, alcohol, soda, processed food, grains, gluten, and animal products from your diet. Keep this habit going for the next three days, enjoying green juices, smoothies, and plant-based meals in their place. If you need to use a sweetener, Mercer recommends liquid stevia as a substitute because it is “all-natural, comes from a plant, and has zero glycemic impact.” Remember to stay hydrated as well – water is essential to help you body release toxins.
For breakfast, Mercer recommends starting your day off with green juice, a blended mix of greens, vegetables, and no fruit (lemon if you must). Mercer’s personal favorite combination consists of “kale, cucumber, celery, lemon, and giner.” For lunch, instead of a large lunch, go for a nutrient-dense green smoothie instead. If you feel hungry between meals, try snacking on cut up raw vegetables like cucumber slices, celery, bell peppers, or carrots.
According to Mercer, your dinner should be the largest, most dense meal of your day. At the end of the day, your body doesn’t need as much energy as it did earlier. Start off with a large green salad, which can be as simple as mixed greens with raw vegetables, using avocado, lemon juice, and liquid stevia as a nice creamy dressing. You main course should be simple and satisfying, with a nice baked sweet potato or squash, maybe butternut or acorn. You could also go for some roasted broccoli or cauliflower. Or perhaps go for a meat substitute from companies like Quorn.
Yumi Media encourages a smooth transition from junk consumption to something more healthy and says, “We agree with a simple way to make the transition. Detoxing your body from all the junk that you were eating does not have to be a difficult process. The important thing is to be diligent and determined and you can overcome your eating habits, perhaps look for a decent meat substitute like Quorn. Keep the health benefits in mind next time you’re mixing a salad for yourself and you will be happy to see the results.”
