We're proud to donate this home to the Metropolitan Housing Development Corporation's work with those in need

Steve Calk, chairman and CEO of The Federal Savings Bank, announced that the Bank has donated a home to the Metropolitan Housing Development Corporation (MHDC), a not-for-profit organization focused on helping to provide quality housing to deserving individuals and families in urban communities. The home currently is being occupied by two single women who were in need of housing. The women, one a veteran’s widow and the other the daughter of a career veteran, were near homelessness when they connected with the MHDC about housing.

Colonel (R) Chad Clark, The Federal Savings Bank’s Overland Park branch manager, identified MHDC as a strong partner for the Bank. Upon initially taking possession of the two-story home, which has three bedrooms and one bathroom, it was valued at $85,000. The Federal Savings Bank cleaned, maintained and secured the home ensuring that when the right partner was identified, the home would be ready to donate. The MHDC then replaced the furnace and hot water heater, as well as re-plumbed and re-wired the home. They also updated the kitchen counters, sink and garbage disposal and painted the interior of the entire house.

The Federal Savings Bank is proud to donate this home to the Metropolitan Housing Development Corporation’s work with those in need,” said Steve Calk, chairman and CEO of The Federal Savings Bank. “As a bank with home financing expertise and a sense of obligation to our military veterans, we do all that we can to assist in the communities that we serve.” After renovating or rehabilitating homes, MHDC provides housing units free of charge or at low market rents to those who need assistance in obtaining safe, secure living environments for themselves and their families. Individuals who qualify for housing come from a variety of sources such as: The Veterans Administration, Salvation Army, Center for Abused Women, Beyond The Conviction, and other organizations whose charter provides for temporary housing assistance. "Through The Federal Savings Bank’s generous home donation, Metropolitan Housing Development Corporation has made a positive change in the lives of two American military veteran families,” said Brad Henrichs, director of the MHDC. “These families, through no fault of their own, otherwise would have been forced to stand in line nightly with the hopes of being able to sleep in a public shelter, or worse, on the streets of Kansas City. Thanks to The Federal Savings Bank, they have a home and can focus on getting back on their feet."
