Without this feedback, chances are quite good that I would have missed it, focusing on other, less popular designs, instead.

San Francisco-based tie retailer Bows-N-Ties.com just introduced a new program via its Facebook page entitled "Be the Buyer", a campaign designed to get instant customer feedback while sourcing new fabrics and designs.

Owner and founder of Bows-N-Ties.com Hendrik Pohl is currently in Como, Italy meeting with a dozen of his silk suppliers and neckwear designers. A little overwhelmed with thousands of design and color choices, he sought the help of his company's 7,000+ Facebook fans. He created a campaign titled "Be the Buyer". Each day he is posting live from his meetings several design choices on to Bows-N-Ties's Facebook page, asking thousands of fans to vote on his/her favorite design.

"The results are amazing," Pohl says. "Just minutes after posting 8 possible new designs, dozens of fans shared their opinions. It was crucial in directing each meeting with our suppliers."

Besides using the feedback to make purchasing decisions, Pohl shares these comments with the designers.

"Everyone loved this instant real-time feedback," he says. "Paisleys for instance appear to remain one of the most popular necktie patterns. Without this feedback, chances are quite good that I would have missed it, focusing on other, less popular designs, instead."

Other popular designs, besides the paisley pattern, are bold colored floral motifs and tiny animal prints.

"Thanks to our customers and Facebook fans I now have very clear idea on what direction to take each meeting. American taste is, after all, quite different from Europeans. Men in Germany and Italy, so the designers are telling me, are huge fans of plaids and textured solids. While we certainly also expand our collections in these areas, the main design emphasis is steered by our customer's feedback."

Besides having a chance to take part in creating Bows-N-Ties's new neckwear collections, each person participating in the "Be the Buyer" series will be entered into a daily $50 gift card drawing.
