Sonoma, California (PRWEB) April 24, 2013
WHO: California-based Free Flow Wines, the pioneer of premium wine on tap, has been participating in the legislative process to change two Florida laws. The current law limits the size of wine containers to one gallon and a passing vote will allow for wine on tap to be served in restaurants and other locations. Free Flow Wines executives, Dan Donahoe and Jordan Kivelstadt, are available to comment on the legislation and the wine on tap business.
WHAT: Bills HB 623 and SB 658, were unanimously approved by the Florida House on March 22, 2013. The Senate vote is expected sometime soon. The two bills amend 564.05, F.S., to allow the sale of wine in individual containers that hold no more than 5.16 gallons and for wine on tap to be served in the state.
WHY: Wine on tap enables the wine and hospitality industries to move away from bottle packaging towards a sustainable and environmentally friendly method that maintains wine integrity from the barrel to the tap. Each wine keg holds the equivalent of 26 bottles. Free Flow Wines saved 347,254 bottles, corks, capsules, labels and cases from the landfill in 2012, equaling over 260 tons of packaging waste. Restaurants, premium venues and national restaurant chains within Florida would like to offer customers wine on tap but the law must be changed to accommodate this new technology.
