It has been reported in Compound Semiconductor that this figure is likely to triple by 2016. This pushes up the government penetration for LED lighting applications to 26% in 2016, from just 5% in 2012. It is widely believed that the cause of this rapid growth lies largely in expanding manufacturing capacity and falling prices, but also thanks to environmental concerns and government initiatives to become more environmental friendly. The highest level of growth is expected to be in LED-based tubes that replace fluorescent tubes used in commercial applications.
Steven Sher, Analyst, NPD DisplaySearch explains that the growth can also be explained by “consumer demand for more efficient light sources with advanced technologies such as wireless and colour control.”
Providing a vast range of domestic and commercial LED lighting solutions, Simple Lighting specialises in LED tape lighting and strip lighting. “These figures released show a really significant jump in a relatively short space of time, something which not many industries are experiencing at the moment. However, when we consider the advantages of switching to LEDs, this isn’t really surprising.”
“As well as allowing a better quality of light and more precision and flexibility, LEDs also help homeowners and businesses to save money whilst also reducing their carbon footprint.”
