With the ski season coming to an end in Europe skiers and snowboarders are already planning their winter holiday, La Plagne in France has announced that work will be getting underway shortly on €9.5m of investment this spring, summer and autumn in preparation for winter 2013-14.

A sizable chunk of the work will go on major upgrades to three of the resort’s lifts in key positions. Amongst the works planned for summer 2013 are the renovation of the “Telémétro” lift between Plagne Centre and Aîme la Plagne.

La Plagne’s lift company, SAP, employs about 140 permanent staff and 60 seasonal workers.

“People were always asking us what we do after the winter season,” said Jérôme Grellet (Director General of the Société d’Aménagement de la Plagne (SAP), “We usually answered that we wake the marmots up at the beginning of the summer then send them back to sleep at the end of the autumn. However it’s not all as simple as that!”

The completion of the work will be to remodel the bottom of the slopes at Plagne Centre, which is already underway; increasing skier flow on La Roche chairlift from 1800 to 2800 people per hour.
