Jostens, the Minneapolis-based leading producer of yearbooks and student-created content, today announced that 20 of its yearbook sales representatives have earned the Journalism Education Association’s (JEA) designation of Certified Journalism Educators (CJE). The newly certified Jostens group is the first-ever corporately organized group to complete the certification.
In addition, Jostens has endorsed the JEA’s rigorous accreditation process as part of its formal sales representative training program. Earning the certification requires weeks of preparation and passing a three-hour exam focusing on journalistic writing and editing, graphics and design, legal and ethical considerations, fiscal management, leadership training, conflict resolution and more.
“Certification from the Journalism Education Association helps signify the top performers in our profession — those individuals who are not only great educators, but great journalists, too,” said Kelly Furnas, JEA executive director. “I think it speaks volumes about a yearbook company that would make this level of excellence a standard for its representatives who interact with classrooms."
The newly certified Jostens CJEs are: Tara Anderson, Mica Benavides, Linda Berry, Bonnie Blackman, Rick Brooks, Mary Bunch, Tina Cleavelin, Stacey Ellwood, Jeffrey Fallon, Scott Geesey, Peter Griffin, Melissa Hodge, Keri Lange, Kelsey Link, Julie Maddaleni, Tyler Melton, Susan Taylor, Janna Thorsen, Karissa Tumbusch and Meghan Milovich.
The JEA is the largest scholastic journalism organization with 2,500 members consisting of journalism teachers and publication advisers, media professionals, press associations, adviser organizations, libraries, publishing companies, newspapers, radio stations and departments of journalism.
