Our love for FIESTA has started a trend across San Antonio with more and more families designing their own medals.
San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) April 26, 2013
For over 120 years, April in San Antonio has meant one thing, FIESTA. From parades, parties, coronations of royalty to backyard and community barbecues, the City of San Antonio puts on its finest and most colorful dress to celebrate FIESTA.
Wrapped in tradition and history Fiesta has a special place in the hearts of several generations in the Alamo City. For young and old, San Antonio has an event for every age demographic. Arts and crafts organizations are long time participants of FIESTA, and colorful wreaths are displayed on front doors for the duration of the celebration in neighborhoods across the city.
The festival began as a single event – The Battle of flowers Parade -- to honor the memory of the battles of The Alamo and San Jacinto. Today more than 100 events helped by over 75,000 volunteers take place over 15 days in April.
A new spin that welcomes all generations to FIESTA is the excitement of the customized FIESTA family medal.
Fiesta medals have been a constant for FIESTA royalty to hand out to parade go-ers and children during FIESTA week. Now, a Former Bexar County Judge with a strong family history has made the FIESTA medal something that families can share and use to educate their children about FIESTA
“We started designing our own family medals 3 years ago with a Scrabble themed medal to showcase our family’s love of board games. Then, the following year our daughter Lillianna, designed our medal with her school mascot embedded in it.
“This year, we will have a Texas themed medal, and for next year the kids are already thinking of incorporating an eagle into the design!” explains Former Judge Karen Crouch.
Crouch and her family enjoy handing out family medals to friends and loved ones throughout FIESTA. The family’s love for FIESTA has started a trend across San Antonio with more and more families designing their own medals, breathing new life into an old San Antonio tradition.
From Texas history to family history, Crouch’s family medals are fast become collectors’ items. VIVA FIESTA!
