Back in 1969, Black Sabbath jolted the music world with a whole new genre – heavy metal.
After breaking up in 1970, the original band members reunited in 1997 and released Reunion, a live album. Today, they have another album called 13, and they just kicked off their first New Zealand tour in 40 years, to be followed by a short U.S. schedule in August.
Original band members - guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and singer Ozzy Osbourne – are performing at the Brisbane Entertainment Center in Brisbane tonight, the Allphones Arena in Sydney on April 27, and the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on April 29 and May 1. They travel on to Perth and Adelaide, and then on to Japan in early May.
The rockers open their brief North American leg at the PNC Bank Center in Holmdel, New Jersey on August 4. Then it’s on to the Air Canada Center in Toronto on August 14; the Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, Washington on August 24; and the Los Angeles Sports Arena in Los Angeles, California on September 3.
Next on the schedule is the crew’s European tour that will last through November, and a gig at the O2 Arena in London, England on December 10, 2013.

The English rock band, formed in Birmingham in 1969, brought a whole new sound – and a whole new attitude – to the party. They re-defined the heavy metal genre with their quadruple-platinum album called Paranoid in 1970.
Despite an association with occult and horror themes, Black Sabbath also composed songs dealing with social instability, political corruption, the dangers of drug abuse and apocalyptic prophecies of the horrors of war. Osbourne's heavy drug use led to his dismissal from the band in 1979, after which he began a successful solo career, selling over 100 million albums. The original band members reunited in 1997.
In January of 2013, the band announced they would release a new album called 13 in June. Brad Wilk of Rage Against the Machine was chosen as the drummer, and Rick Rubin was chosen as the producer. The album’s first single, "God Is Dead?”, was released this month and a second single, "End of the Beginning", will debut on a CSI episode in May.
Today, Black Sabbath is ranked by MTV as the "Greatest Metal Band" of all time; and they rank Number Two on VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock list, behind Led Zeppelin.
They have sold over 15 million records in the United States and over 70 million records worldwide. The band was inducted into the UK Music Hall of Fame in 2005 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006. (Source: wikipedia.org)
