The latest video guitar lesson by the online musical instruction company Guitar Control is the intro riff from a classic Dream Theater song. The skillful instructor in this quick clip is Silvio Gazquez, who also happens to be a 2x finalist in the international Guitar Idol contest.
The progressive metal band dream theater was formed back in 1985 in the United States, although they were originally called Majesty. They’re still around today and their music usually involves unique guitar riffs. Furthermore, in this song they utilized effects such as reverb, chorus, and delay to achieve the distinguished sound.
The likable thing about guitar lessons like these is that they can be viewed unlimitedly, all it takes of course is a click of the subscribe button below the video, and it’s always complimentary. There’s also guitar tabs available for extra help, which are a handy form of music notation and can be a great way to learn how to play guitar chords.
This lesson should be easy enough for beginners to attempt, as it’s one of those riffs that sound a bit complex but it’s not too tough to learn. Also, Silvio has a system in which he first plays the song at the regular speed and then does it again at a much slower pace in order for the viewer to get a closer look at the guitar chords he’s using and more.
Guitar Control has a slogan that says “We won’t stop until the whole world can play the guitar,” and with more than 250 video lessons on Youtube alone, it seems as though they may eventually reach their goal!
