April 24, 2013 – The San Francisco Travel Association is launching the Neighborhood Partners Program to provide greater connections between the 16.5 million visitors who come to San Francisco each year and businesses located throughout the city’s 49 square miles.
“The program focuses on the breadth and depth of our diverse neighborhoods and the small businesses that make them thrive,” said Joe D’Alessandro, president and CEO of San Francisco Travel. “Our overall goal with the program is to draw more visitors into the city’s unique and fascinating neighborhoods, while helping small businesses to become active participants in the city’s tourism industry.”
“We are excited to have the resources and experience of our partnership with Wells Fargo and their support of the program,” he added.
Participation in the program is awarded to unique “Only in San Francisco” businesses located throughout the city, with an emphasis on those operating outside the traditional visitor areas. The program is open to businesses that are of interest to visitors and not currently San Francisco Travel partners.
The Neighborhood Partners Program includes several elements:
- A Neighborhood Partnership Grant of a complimentary two-year San Francisco Travel partnership*
- Exposure to more than 3.6 million web visitors with a Premier listing on SanFrancisco.travel
- A Partner Support Team consisting of one San Francisco Travel staff member, and one current San Francisco Travel Partner to help grant recipients maximize their new benefits
- Weekly industry update emails with exclusive Partner information and marketing opportunities
- Access to visiting journalists and Publicity Alerts
- Eligibility for referrals and leads from our Convention, Tourism, Media Relations departments and Visitor Information Center staff
- Admission to exclusive networking and educational events such as the San Francisco Travel Annual Luncheon, Market Briefings, Outlook Forums and Partner Business Exchanges
“The Neighborhood Partners Program is specially designed to help businesses understand how to drive revenue from the visitor and convention markets and build powerful relationships within the industry,” D’Alessandro said. “This is a curriculum-based program built around improving knowledge, connections and direct business benefit from the visitor industry.”
The deadline for nominations or applications is Friday, May 17. Program information and the nomination/application forms are available online at http://www.sanfrancisco.travel/neighborhood-partner.

The May 17 deadline coincides with Small Business Week, also presented by Wells Fargo.
Program participants will be selected based on several criteria, including the unique-to-San Francisco nature of the business, the potential to attract visitors to their neighborhood and their commitment to participate fully in the program.
A panel including representatives of the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development, the San Francisco Office of Small Business, Wells Fargo and San Francisco Travel staff will select the participants.
The businesses selected for the 2013-2015 Neighborhood Partners Program will be honored at San Francisco Travel’s Annual Luncheon on June 18. The 2012-2013 participants are:
