At Rooted Tree Services we are seeing the rapid spread of Emerald Ash Borer and are removing Ash trees that cannot be saved and doing our best to protect those that are left.

Business Review today applauds the Greater Toronto Areas’ (GTA) local, Rooted Tree Services for its dedication to the tree canopies of Mississauga, Oakville and Etobicoke communities by offering free tree removal quotes to residents and businesses whose landscapes have ash trees affected by Emerald Ash Borer. Approximately two million ash trees in the GTA will be infested with EAB over the next one to five years.

Ash trees are a native species to Canada and all of them are effectively lost. To spot an infected tree, you should look out for the following:

  •     Trees appear to be thinning at the crown, dead branches and yellowing of leaves.
  •     Adults emerge from a D-shaped exit hole between mid-May and late June.
  •     Adults are metallic blue-green.
  •     Bodies are narrow and 8.5 to 14 mm long.
  •     Larvae are a creamy white color with a light brown head

"Ash trees across Ontario are seriously under threat from this EAB pest," says, Peter Crawford of Rooted Tree Services. “At Rooted Tree Services we are seeing the rapid spread of Emerald Ash Borer and are removing Ash trees that cannot be saved and doing our best to protect those that are left. If you have any questions about Emerald Ash Borer, or if you are concerned about your Ash tree, please don’t hesitate to contact us for a complimentary consultation and estimate.” Rooted Tree Services is familiar with obtaining permits required by different communities and has consulted on thousands of trees infested with the disease. The expert arborist company is also insured and carries WSIB which can be viewed on the company website.

The Emerald Ash Borer attacks both healthy and stressed Ash trees. The pest will only travel a few kilometers per year on its own, however; it can be easily dispersed long distances by people moving infested materials, such as firewood, logs, lumber, and woodchips. Residents can learn how to identify the Emerald Ash Borer and what infested trees look like, as well as which host trees they target.
