Six representatives from HALO Branded Solutions attended Promotional Products Association International (PPAI) Legislative Education and Action Day (LEAD) in Washington DC to speak with legislators about the impacts legislation could have on the promotional products industry.

The PPAI delegation lit up when [Speaker of the House John Boehner] took the microphone at our Wednesday evening dinner and shared his thoughts on what was going on in Washington.

PPAI LEAD, a Washington DC promotional products event, was on April 10-11, 2013. HALO Branded Solutions was represented by Account Executives Sara Fran Richman, and Charlie Stevens of Baltimore, MD, Mitch Rhodus of Fairfield, OH, and Steve Parker of Chatsworth, CA, as well as Senior Vice President of Sales Dale Limes and Regional Business Development Vice President Eric Ekstrand.

LEAD had a total of 64 participants from the promotional products industry. The participants conducted a total of 280 visits to Senate and House Congressional offices throughout the two days. HALO’s team met with over 20 members of Congress or their staff to discuss the current issues affecting the promotional products industry.

“One of the biggest highlights of the two day event was during our dinner on Wednesday evening when Speaker of the House John Boehner paid a visit to our private hotel room,” said Dale Limes, HALO’s Senior Vice President of Sales. The visit was coordinated by Account Executive Mitch Rhodus, who has known Boehner for years. “It was all kept secret,” said Limes, “and the PPAI delegation lit up when the Speaker took the microphone at our Wednesday evening dinner and shared his thoughts on what was going on in Washington.”

The HALO team spoke to legislators about the impact that legislation could have on both governmental and non-governmental organizations looking to use promotional products. Legislators were surprised to learn that, according to PPAI figures, the promotional products industry consists of approximately 32,000 companies, generates $17.7 billion in revenue annually, and employs more than 432,000 Americans.

Other issues that were discussed include tax rates and reform, the benefit of promotional products for safety programs, and IRS Section 530 Independent Contractor Safe Harbor Rule, which allows individuals to sell for one company as an independent contractor.
