Three attorneys from the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP have been named to the 2013 Daily Journal’s list of Top Intellectual Property Lawyers in California. Illustrating the range of the firm’s, statewide Intellectual Property and Technology Practice, each of the named attorneys focuses their practice on a different aspect of intellectual property law. Ian C. Ballon (Internet Law) was recognized among the Top 75 IP Litigators, and Susan L. Ballon, an Internet and intellectual property litigator is based in both Los Angeles and Silicon Valley. He represents technology, media, and entertainment companies in complex copyright, DMCA, Lanham Act and Internet-related litigation and counseling, including the defense of privacy class action suits. Ballon has served as lead counsel in numerous lawsuits involving novel and complex issues under copyright law and the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), trademark infringement, cybersquatting, sponsored link, Internet advertising and other claims under the Lanham Act, and secondary liability and safe harbors issues applicable to Internet companies, social media, mobile devices and the cloud.

Meeker is Chair of the firm’s Global IP/IT Licensing and Transactions Group and co-managing Shareholder of the Silicon Valley office. She has nearly 20 years’ experience leading intellectual property technology and business transactions for technology clients, covering a range of industries including software, consumer electronics, web services, educational testing, computer equipment and medical devices. She has wide-ranging experience in intellectual property matters related to mergers and acquisitions. Meeker is also an internationally renowned expert, and a frequent writer and lecturer, on open source software licensing issues. Her clients in this area include many of the top technology companies in the world, ranging from Silicon Valley across the globe.
Meeker is a former adjunct professor at UC Hastings College of the Law and UC Berkeley School of Law. She was an Adviser to the Principles of the Law of Software Contracts project of the American Law Institute. She is the author of several books including, most recently, “Technology Licensing: A Practitioner’s Guide” (American Bar Association 2010) and “The Open Source Alternative,” (Wiley 2008) a widely used handbook on open source software licensing for lawyers, engineers and businesspersons. She has been the recipient of many prestigious honors and awards from highly regarded organizations and publications, including being named as the 2012 “San Francisco Information Technology Law Lawyer of the Year” by Best Lawyers®, and listed in Chambers and Partners USA Guide for Intellectual Property as well as IT and outsourcing (2008 – 2013).
