ATA Announces Award Winners and New Fellows, Recognizing Innovators in Telemedicine, mHealth

The American Telemedicine Association has named the winners of its prestigious annual awards and announced the election of two new members to the ATA College of Fellows. Award winners and fellows will formally accept their honors at the ATA 2013 Annual Meeting and Trade Show, May 5-7, 2013 in Austin, TX.

The winners of the 2013 ATA Awards represent the true innovators and best-of-the-best in our field.

The American Telemedicine Association is pleased to announce the winners of the 2013 ATA Annual Awards. These awards recognize individuals and organizations on the forefront of healthcare technology for their significant contributions to the development of telemedicine. Winners will formally accept their awards at the ATA 2013 Annual Meeting and Trade Show, May 5-7, 2013 in Austin, TX.

“The winners of the 2013 ATA Awards represent the true innovators and best-of-the-best in our field,” said Stewart Ferguson, PhD, President of the American Telemedicine Association. “These individuals and organizations have proven that telemedicine is an invaluable tool in saving lives and improving healthcare, both here in the United States and around the world. We are honored to recognize their great accomplishments.”

The following awards have been announced:

  • ATA President’s Award for the Advancement of Telemedicine – Individual

Award supported by Jay Sanders of The Global Telemedicine Group
Winner: Rashid Bashshur, PhD, Professor Emeritus, Department of Management and Policy; Director, UMH Telemedicine Core, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI

  • ATA President’s Award for the Advancement of Telemedicine – Institutional

Winner: University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, Project ECHO, Albuquerque, NM

  • ATA President’s Award for the Advancement of Telemedicine – Innovation

Winner: Department of Defense, Safe Helpline Application, developed by the Department of Defense and RAINN

  • ATA Industry Council Award

Winner: Peter Killcommons, MD, Chief Executive Officer, Medweb, San Francisco, CA

ATA has also elected two members of distinction as new members to the ATA College of Fellows. Election as a Fellow is a high honor that recognizes achievements in telemedicine, services to the general telemedicine community and service to ATA. The new Fellows are:

  • Pramod Gaur, PhD, Vice President of Telehealth, UGH IT Division, UnitedHealth Group, White Plains, NY
