Photographing NYC is inspirational on so many levels.

Photographer Ellen Fisch loves sharing her passions for photography and architecture. Her recent photo tour of the Brooklyn College campus was highly successful. Photography enthusiasts with all types of cameras (including cell phones) took pictures of the stately architecture and wonderful plantings within the Brooklyn oasis. Prior to the group’s actual photographing and strolling the quad, Fisch went over some basic principles of photography, design, composition, values, and post production of images. All and any comments from the group were welcomed and addressed by Fisch who responded from many years as a professional architectural photographer and artist. This workshop/tour continues with a critique of the assorted photographs the week of May 1st.

“Hosting photo tours is a wonderful way for me to refresh my skills and to learn new ideas from tour members.” Fisch noted that she believes in the motto “If you want to become an expert in a field, teach it.” The Brooklyn College photo tour participants offered some unique and thought provoking concepts of visualization to Fisch who encouraged her group while appreciating the varied viewpoints. “The tips members share on a photo tour are often incorporated into my own architectural art photography,” comments Fisch. She believes that every photography interaction is a chance to learn something new about her art and craft.

Having lived in Brooklyn and the Bronx, attended classes in Queens, Manhattan and the aforementioned boroughs and meandering throughout the NYC area extensively for business and pleasure all her life, photographer Ellen Fisch is intimately involved with and aware of NYC. “Photographing NYC is inspirational on so many levels,” says Fisch. She especially notes that the architecture throughout the city is “incredibly diverse” and “wonderfully appealing for photographers” of any predilection and skill level. As a motivator of individuality and creativity, Fisch strongly inspires confidence in tour participants to discover photography as a means of self-expression. One photo tour member, on achieving success in capturing images complimented Fisch by saying, “I feel as if you have just opened my eyes to everything! I am now able to take the photographs I always dreamed of shooting!”

The newly planned photo tours of NYC will in fact launch in May. Prospective tour sites will be areas surrounding iconic architecture such as Grand Central Station, NY Public Library at 42nd Street, Chelsea Market; the park-like places of Central Park; and consummate NYC areas including Rockefeller Center and Times Square. “All of these wonderful locations provide an opportunity to photograph architecture. After all, photographing architecture gives you the real essence of places!” Tours of one to two, three to four, and five to six are currently available for two or three hours each. Every tour exposes photography devotees to familiar and unusual NYC sights, all of which offer exceptional opportunities to take unique and stunning shots.
