After only a few months in service, Avalon Malibu Treatment Center opens the doors of a new facility to accommodate its rapidly growing waiting list. The treatment center also gets an upgrade to its services by acquiring a license from the Department of Social Services and certification from the Department of Mental Health; this provides them the authorization to treat primary mental health problems and not just chemical dependency issues.

Addiction treatment does not simply mean the cessation of drug or alcohol use, it requires a commitment to go through a tried and tested process. In the case of Avalon Malibu Treatment Center, treatment is a 10-point addiction recovery system devised in conjunction with an integrative approach pioneered by Dr. Joan Borysenko. Dr. Borysenko is a licensed clinical psychologist, spiritual mentor, trainer of spiritual mentors, and the New York Times bestselling author of Minding the Body, Mending the Mind, based on her groundbreaking work as co-founder of one of the first hospital-based mind-body programs in the United States. Considered an expert in the mind/body/spirit connection, Dr. Borysenko joins Avalon Malibu to lend a hand in the dual diagnosis of primary mental health problems and co-occurring disorders such as depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic attacks, and bipolar disorder.

More than 70% of people seeking addiction treatment have an underlying issue that can be a cause for drug and alcohol abuse. The goal of Avalon Malibu Treatment Center is to help its clients regain balance so that they can make sound life choices. Each treatment regimen is tailored to fit the unique needs of each client and is a flexible, constantly evolving course of therapy that treats the body, mind, and spirit.

“By opening a new facility, we hope to better accommodate those who are most in need of our services. We at Avalon Malibu are excited to be able to accept insurance to help people get high-resource treatment for their problems. The acquisition of a Department of Social Services license to treat primary mental health problems brings us closer to our goal of becoming a truly comprehensive treatment facility. We are also currently in the process of obtaining accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations [JCAHO], so that is also something to watch out for,” says Avalon Malibu Treatment Center CEO Jeff Schwartz. Jeff Schwartz is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 30 years of experience in the field of addiction. He joins hands with Dr. Borysenko in the implementation of a scientific and research-based philosophy of healing at Avalon Malibu Treatment Center.
