Indoor Location with Light Provider Teams with Nokia, Samsung and Others to Pioneer Opening up New Business Streams for Indoor Environments

Given our indoor location solution uses an innovative lighting-based technology, we are uniquely positioned to develop standards and use cases for the alliance aimed specifically at sub-meter usages of indoor positioning systems.

ByteLight, a provider of indoor location and positioning with light, today announced the company has been selected to join the founding members of the In-Location Alliance. ByteLight was appointed to the In-Location Alliance’s System Architecture Working Group and is responsible for leading development of standards and use cases for delivering hyper-targeted information and content to mobile users based on their precise location indoors.

The In-Location Alliance is an industry consortium focused on accurate mobile indoor positioning and promoting deployment of location-based indoor services and solutions. The aim is to ensure a multivendor environment by promoting open interfaces and a standards-based approach. The alliance, which now includes more than 60 members, will create an ecosystem that stimulates innovation, enhances service delivery and accelerates the adoption of solutions and technologies that optimize the mobile experience.

“We’re excited to join Nokia, Samsung and the other founding members of the In-Location Alliance to assist in leading the development of protocols, standards and communication methods for determining indoor location,” said Dan Ryan, CEO and Co-founder of ByteLight. “Given our indoor location solution uses an innovative lighting-based technology, we are uniquely positioned to develop standards and use cases for the alliance aimed specifically at sub-meter usages of indoor positioning systems.”

ByteLight’s indoor location solution assists retailers and venue owners with delivering hyper-targeted information and content to mobile users based on their precise location – whether its deals, directions, promotions, product info or reviews. Retailers and venue owners are also able to direct in-store employees to where they’re needed and can offer virtual assistance to customers based on their location when all other employees are busy. Most importantly, ByteLight’s solution fully integrates physical commerce with eCommerce to give retailers an omnichannel offering and customers a seamless experience.

In addition to Nokia and Samsung, founding members of the alliance include: Broadcom, CSR, Dialog Semiconductor, Eptisa, Geomobile, Genasys, Indra, Insiteo, Nomadic Solutions, Nordic Semiconductor, Nordic Technology Group, NowOn, Primax Electronics, Qualcomm, RapidBlue Solutions, Seolane Innovation, Sony Mobile Communications, TamperSeal AB, Team Action Zone and Visioglobe.
