Gracie Tampa's Joe "Bamboo" Wissman made a successful return to the professional MMA cage this past weekend at Prizefight Promotion in Tunica MS. Wissman didn’t look like the time away from the cage had any negative effect. Wissman was able to control the fight against the formerly undefeated Codie Shuffield. Wissman controlled the striking and groundwork while Shuffield constantly pushed into the clinch. Wissman did not give the extremely pro-Shuffield crowd much to cheer about as Shuffield did not seem to have much of a game plan, even when he did achieve the clinch. The end came in the third round when Wissman took Codie’s back and sank in the rear naked choke. Bamboo showed the type of well-rounded MMA skill typical of Gracie Tampa students and instructors. The victory was even more impressive when it was revealed after the fight that Wissman had a fairly severe hip injury just two weeks prior to the fight but refused to back out of his long awaited come back.
