Will Wilcox did not sleep much Saturday night in anticipation of defending his lead at the South Georgia Classic, but he’s resting easier now. In capturing first place, Wilcox earned $117,000 and moved from number 55 to number 3 on the Web.com Tour money list – a move that could earn him a spot on the PGA Tour for the 2014 season. The up and coming pro underscored his win by setting a course record 63 in the third round. That mark was five shots better than the next player on Saturday with Wilcox holing out for eagle from 193 yards with a 7 iron on No. 12, Kinderlou Forest’s toughest hole. Wilcox would go on to hole out again for eagle during Sunday’s final round on the 7th hole from 135 yards with a wedge.
“I have a great team of sponsors that support me each week on the Web.com Tour," states Wilcox. I visited the Bethel Farms headquarters earlier this year, and it is truly an honor to represent the (Harmony Turfgrass) brand each week on the Web.com Tour. I am excited for the rest of the 2013 Web.com Tour season, and hope to win again soon," Wilcox continued.
Harmony Turfgrass is one of four sponsors who recognized Wilcox’s talent and ability early on, signing on in 2012. “What we saw in Will was someone with energy, enthusiasm and a bright future. As someone who lives his life on the fairways and greens, he was a natural fit for the brand,” states Mike Pope, Vice President Sales & Marketing for Harmony products. “We’re excited to watch Will take the next step in his progression as a top tier professional golfer.”
The Web.com Tour visits Athens, Georgia this week for the Stadion Classic. Wilcox is in the field and looking to follow up a 3rd place finish at the same event in 2011. He feels positive about his chances at a top spot.
“I’ve been dreaming about this my whole life,” says Wilcox. “I’ve made some really big changes in my life and that’s obviously what I need to do and continue with.”
