Utilizing two main-stream accounting software programs, students are provided a case study and must comprehensively compare accounting software solutions. Students identify:
1. Current environment and associated problems
2. Projected company growth and resulting workload
3. Information needs for a company twice its present size
4. Advantages of automating the entire company and not just the billing department
5. A summary comparison of both accounting system capabilities
6. A make or buy recommendation
7. A financial analysis, which includes personnel requirements
Due to its sophisticated financial management capabilities, students are instructed to analyze AccountMate for Express as one of the two accounting systems evaluated. Throughout their analysis of key system features, students discover that AccountMate offers essential real-time processing and automation for small to medium-sized businesses right out-of-the-box.
With up-to-the-minute data, students could access mock customer and vendor account information, verify inventory availability and confirm incoming orders. AccountMate’s standard drill down capability provides sub level account detail and immediate access to sales orders, transactional reports, invoices and other valuable financial information such as sales-to-date, open order data, or balances due. System-wide tracking of data changes provides a comprehensive audit trail strengthening internal controls. Multi-segmented chart of accounts allow for complex cost center structure and flexible analysis of financial statements.
