Moms Are Less Interested In Receiving An iPad For Mother’s Day This Year Compared To Last Year

The majority of mothers still prefer an iPad over flowers, but the popularity of it as a gift has waned, a leading deal aggregation website for electronic products, released its annual Mother’s Day survey results. The findings revealed nearly three in four or 73% of mothers rather receive an iPad than flowers for their designated holiday. That is an 18% drop from last year when 91% of mothers surveyed said they would prefer to receive an iPad over flowers.

“The majority of mothers still prefer an iPad over flowers, but the popularity of it as a gift has waned” said Yung Trang, president and editor in chief of “This decline may be a reflection of market oversaturation, meaning many mothers already own an iPad, or iPad mania wearing off in general.”

The survey also reveals 67% of mothers would rather receive a weekend getaway than a new smartphone. Overall, interest in receiving consumer electronics for Mother’s Day fell from 2012. 13% of mothers surveyed said they are interested in receiving a consumer electronic device for Mother’s Day compared to 31% last year. Of those respondents interested in receiving a tech gadget, 38% want a tablet, 29% want a smartphone, 19% want a laptop, 5% want an e-reader, 5% want a television and 4% want other devices.

Only one in ten (10%) respondents plan to give their mom a consumer electronic for Mother’s Day. According to the survey, only 5% believed their mom is very tech savvy. 34% classify their mother as not tech savvy, 42% said their mom knows how to use basic tech gadgets, and 19% said their mother is comfortable with most technology.
