There are many reasons to switch to the ENERGY STAR® qualified, GE GeoSpring™ Hybrid Water Heater. It “uses up to 62% less energy than a standard electric 50 gallon water heater” according to GE Appliances. This reduction in energy consumption can save your household up to $325* per year in water heating expenses. The GE GeoSpring™ Hybrid Water Heater supports American manufacturing jobs. It is designed and produced in Louisville, Kentucky. This model is available in two color options: Red (GEH50DEEDSR) and Titanium (GEH50DEEDSC). GE includes a 10 year, limited warranty with the purchase of this product. Service is available through factory trained GE appliance technicians throughout the United States.

A standard electric water heater has two electric resistant elements that use 4500 watts of energy to heat the water. The GE GeoSpring™ Hybrid Water Heater features innovative heat pump technology with backup electric elements. The heat pump is the primary source of heat because it pulls heat from the surrounding air and transfers the heat to the water that is stored in the tank. Through this process of transferring heat, it is able to use much less electricity, as little as 1550 watts per year. The backup electric elements are only used in periods of extremely high demand for hot water. Maximizing the use of heat pump technology at all times results in money saved for consumer households.

Installation is easy on the GE GeoSpring™ Hybrid Water Heater. It can be installed by a contractor or the home owner. The GE GeoSpring™ Heat Pump Water Heater water supply connections are located at a standard height on top of the water heater tank. In most installations, there is no need to modify the water supply connection. This makes the GeoSpring™ installation procedure less costly and time consuming compared to most other heat pump water heaters on the US market today. The only additional accessory needed is installation of a condensate line. This is necessary to redirect the internal condensing water to the nearest drain or exterior of the home. Roch Naleway, Manager of General Pacific’s Conservation Product Divison, reports “This GeoSpring™ is easy to transport and easy to install. No specialty training is needed. It is the only heat pump water heater we feel comfortable endorsing for home owner installation. We love that this product is made in the USA.”

To promote energy efficiency, the federal government is offering a tax credit for upgrading water heaters in residential homes. This rebate is for up to $300. For more details, check the link
