Delivery system has greater stability and several times higher loading capacity than the liposomes.

European scientists at the Contipro holding have come up with a substance they claim is a powerful weapon in the fight against signs of aging skin. With this substance, effective anti-aging ingredients can be delivered into the deeper layers of the skin, thus compounding the efficiency of their action. A hyaluronic acid delivery system Delcore has greater stability and several times higher loading capacity than the liposomes currently used for similar purposes. What is more, the carrier itself, made of hyaluronic and oleic acids, counteracts the effects of aging skin.

When the skin ages, it is not just wrinkles that cause problems. Cosmetics also use substances designed to improve skin texture and elasticity, hydration and lipid content. These visible signs of aging can largely be attributed to the lower layers of the skin where it is difficult to deliver anti-aging ingredients. It is here that the new delivery system, Delcore, will come into its own as, in the form polymeric micelles, it penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin before releasing the substance it has been carrying.

The idea of delivering nutrition and anti-aging ingredients into the deeper layers of the skin is nothing new. Since the end of the 1980s, liposomes – closed vesicles composed of a lipid bilayer – have been used for this purpose. The new hyaluronan derivative outperforms liposomes with its greater stability and, more importantly, up to ten times higher loading capacity. Furthermore, the carrier is derived from hyaluronic acid, which, as an autologous substance, is very well received and does not cause allergic reactions.

Delcore, the new cosmetic ingredient, has been developed at Contipro Biotech, a company specializing in the biotechnological production of hyaluronic acid and research into new applications for this acid for the past 23 years, and a world leader in the chemistry behind hyaluronan.

Hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in our bodies, and is traditionally used in cosmetics to improve skin hydration.
