Rocky Top Sports World, the country’s newest sports destination facility, was unveiled to the nation’s top tournament planners at the 21st Annual National Association of Sports Commissions (NASC) Symposium held in Louisville, Kentucky, April 22-25. Representatives of Rocky Top Sports World Management, the City of Gatlinburg, Sevier County and the Gatlinburg Convention and Visitors Bureau introduced the new complex to over 750 attendees and held one-on-one meetings with national governing bodies including the Amateur Athletic Union of the United States (AAU), The United States Olympic Committee, USA Field Hockey, USA Gymnastics, and numerous others.

The Rocky Top Sports World marketing launch included transportation to and from a dinner and tours of Churchill Downs, and presentation of a 3-D virtual video of the new 80-acre, $20 million complex. The 8 chartered busses were wrapped in 25-foot Rocky Top Sports World promotional signage and featured the video on multiple screens with an introduction and progress updates by members of the Rocky Top Sports World team.

“The NASC Symposium gave Rocky Top Sports World the exposure that created a profile and awareness that you could not get in any other forum”, stated Terry Hasseltine, newly elected chair of NASC. “The culmination of the destination, event owners and service providers in the sports event industry allowed for an introduction of this venue at an event that is second to none.”

Throughout the marketplace sessions, local representatives were able to showcase details of the new seven full-size synthetic turf fields, 10 basketball courts, 17 volleyball courts, and recreational climbing wall featured in the project. This facility, combined with the natural appeal of the Great Smoky Mountains, makes Gatlinburg an ideal location for state, regional and national sporting tournaments.

The City of Gatlinburg and Sevier County engaged The Sports Facilities Advisory to oversee the development and management of Rocky Top Sports World. The Sports Facilities Advisory is the country’s leading management company for sports tourism and youth and amateur sporting venues.

Founded in 1992, the National Association of Sports Commissioners represents over 700 organizations across the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. The NASC provides an outlet for education, communication, networking, and professional development to the sports event industry.
