"Big Al is one of our most credentialed Jiu-Jitsu competitors. He's won the Pan 2x now and the European once." - Julius Park

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts competitor Alfonso Joel Washington, Jr. picked up his third BJJ Grand Slam medal of the 2013 season last week in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Washington, who trains at Crazy 88 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Elkridge, Maryland, fought his way through his blue belt Ultra heavy weight division, winning four fights for his silver medal.
Brazilian Nationals, or Brasileros, is known for attracting some of the sport’s toughest competitors, and is the third of four Grand Slam tournaments held each year by the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation.
At the first two Grand Slam tournaments, the European Open in Lisbon, Portugal, and the Pan American Championship in Irvine, California, Washington won gold.
Washington wasn’t satisfied with his final match, where he faced the same competitor who he fought in the finals of the Pan American Championships, only this time, fell short on the scoreboard. But the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of 2013 is just weeks away -- the World Championshps, held in Long Beach, CA -- and Washington has his sights set on the top of the medal podium.
"Big Al is one of our most credentialed Jiu-Jitsu competitors. He's won the Pan 2x now and the European once. Last year, he took Silver at the Brazilian Nationals so it was a bit disappointing to get Silver again but we will study the footage and make sure Al is on point for the Worlds." remarked head coach, Julius Park.
