Rich in history and culture, we’re extremely excited about it being its centenary – and hope to see its most popular garden designs and plant varieties from the past 100 years.

The year’s biggest event in the horticultural calendar is celebrating its centenary this year – with the Chelsea Flower Show taking place this May.
Hosted on May 21-25th 2013 by the Royal Horticultural Society, the Chelsea Flower Show is one of the most famed and esteemed exhibitions in the world. Featuring a number of impressive show gardens, many supporters borrow inspiration from this historic show – with fans including many high-profile celebrities as well as the UK’s leading gardening retailer, Altons Online Garden Centre.
James Oxley of Altons Online Garden Centre said: “Each year we’ve followed the success of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, and what we can learn from its experts. Rich in history and culture, we’re extremely excited about it being its centenary – and hope to see its most popular garden designs and plant varieties from the past 100 years.”
This year sees the bar being raised in terms of creativity. Showcasing a horticultural installation integrating interactive technology known as the Digital Capabilities garden and to mark the Chelsea Flower Show’s 100 year anniversary, M&G Investments will be exhibiting a centenary garden – evoking trends from past and present gardens.
With many of the gardens featuring a selection of modern and traditional architecture, nature enthusiasts can recreate the look by browsing the Alton outdoor furniture collection. Leading brands such as Hartman’s cast aluminium Amalfi range or Bellagio’s garden furniture sets guarantee top quality throughout the year, whatever the season.
“It will be fantastic to see what types of gardens will be on show this year,” enthused Oxley.
“Big names such as Arthritis Research UK, The Telegraph plus the NSPCC are certain to impress fellow horticultural lovers. Additionally, the nurseries should also provide us with an exceptional display of plants and flowers, and with some unique landscaping ideas to look forward to, we’ve got a good feeling that this centenary will be the best year yet for the Chelsea Flower Show – as well as the gardening industry.”
Thousands of green-fingered fans are expected to descend on the world’s greatest flower show at London’s Royal Hospital Chelsea – attracting 157,000 visitors each year.
