Wooden Gems Traditional Toys and Christmas Gifts has been established by Craig and Gemma Duxbury who've launched a new business which they manage alongside their full-time jobs.

As Britain narrowly avoided going into recession for a third time, many working couples with young children are struggling to maintain a reasonable standard of living. Launching a new business to supplement their income from their day jobs, Craig and Gemma Duxbury manage Wooden Gems Traditional Toys and Christmas Decorations from their home in York, North Yorkshire.

Initially selling through eBay and Facebook, the couple had a successful Christmas season, which encouraged them to invest in an online retail site and they have recently launched to market a range of traditional wooden toys and Christmas decorations. "Because our overheads are low, we can keep our prices down, making our toys appeal to cash-strapped parents who still want to give their children durable, quality toys that enhance learning and motor skills," explains Craig, an accountant during the day and website manager at night.

His wife Gemma, who works as a full-time real estate agent, says, "It's a challenge when you've got three young children under the age of five, as we do, but working from home means that we can actually encourage the children to be part of the business. They're the best 'toy-testers' and reviewers we could hope for."

Wooden Gems Traditional Toys carry Legler toys and Christmas items, and Melissa & Doug products. They are looking to expand their range to provide their UK and international customers with quality, traditional toys.
