The professionals at Think Big Online SEO understand that one of the main reasons a business will want their website to be search engine optimized is so it ranks higher on Google. A higher page ranking means more people are likely to see the site and click on it. But in an article written by Pamela Schott for her website, the marketing expert poses an interesting question: is it possible to ignore Google?

As Schott points out, the world of SEO is constantly changing. In 2011, she says, Google admitted to changing their search engine algorithm for ranking content more than 500 times. It’s simply not feasible to keep up with every update, especially when Google doesn’t announce anything but the major changes. What a business needs to know for SEO is always in flux, then, when it comes to Google.

What’s the alternative? If a business ignores Google, how does Schott suggest it attract customers? What she lists are three things that all websites should do anyway, regardless of their stance on Google:

Create high quality content.

Consistently work on networking and marketing.

Create a successful network of other professionals to rely on.

Is this enough to launch a business while ignoring Google? Think Big Online Founder Samuel Junghenn points out that “Without a good SEO strategy, it is literally impossible for a business to stand out and attain any level of success and achieve what is really important in any business – making a profit.” While a business certainly wants outstanding content on their website and a solid marketing plan that changes and evolves over time, Google cannot be ignored.

This doesn’t mean that a business is going to have to constantly update their website to keep up with Google’s changes. Many of the smaller changes won’t affect page ranking that much, anyway. With any SEO service, however, the content should be written first for customers, but always keep Google in mind and take advantage of every opportunity to incorporate SEO into a site.
