HORSHAM, Pa. (PRWEB) May 01, 2013
The Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company, a more than 166-year-old company, is pleased to announce Eileen McDonnell, President and Chief Executive Officer, will participate in a panel discussion entitled Lighting the Way: Inspiring Stories from Accomplished Women at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington, D.C., on May 2.
The event, sponsored by Janney Montgomery Scott LLC, Penn Mutual’s wholly owned subsidiary, will include a discussion on women’s leadership moderated by Susan Goldberg, executive editor of Government News and Bloomberg News. McDonnell and Deborah Harmon, co-founder and CEO of Artemis Real Estate Partners, will be the featured panelists and Sheila Shaffer, executive vice president at Janney, will introduce the panel.
“It’s an honor to be invited to participate in an event alongside successful women like Deborah, Susan and Sheila,” said McDonnell. “I believe it’s a responsibility of mine and all women in prominent leadership roles to mentor aspiring career women and act as a resource for them throughout their professional development.”
One of the few women leading a major life insurer, and Penn Mutual’s first female CEO, McDonnell has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. In addition to her role with Penn Mutual, she currently holds several other prominent leadership positions, including board member of the American Council of Life Insurers (ACLI), vice chair of the Insurance Federation of Pennsylvania, board member of Universal Health Services, Inc., and national advisor to Vision 2020.
McDonnell joined Penn Mutual in 2008 as executive vice president and chief marketing officer and was appointed to the Penn Mutual Board of Trustees in 2010, when she was named President. She was named Chief Executive Officer in 2011. Prior to Penn Mutual, McDonnell was president of New England Financial, a wholly owned subsidiary of MetLife; and senior vice president of the Guardian Life Insurance Company. She is a former member of the Master of Science in Management faculty at The American College in Bryn Mawr, Pa., where she held the chair for Women and Financial Services.
