...Many believe cycling is better than golf for building lasting working relationships, or landing a new job, because it is less competitive.

On May 2, city bike designer, Linus Bike, releases a statement commenting on an article published on Skift.com that discusses how business associates are embracing cycling as opposed to golfing as an alternative to meeting up and talking business.

For years, business associates would get to know each other over a couple of rounds of golf. As of recently, road cycling has been alternative used by young professionals to discuss business with professionals. According to the article on Skift.com, “A growing number of corporate-sponsored charity bike rides and city cycle clubs are providing an ideal opportunity to talk shop with like-minded colleagues and clients while discussing different bike frames and tricky headwinds. Many believe cycling is better than golf for building lasting working relationships, or landing a new job, because it is less competitive.”

Group cycling is a shared experience. Riders often have to collaborate and work together to get to their desired location. Peter Murray, a former architect and journalist, founded an ambitious ride called “Portland to Portland”. A team of architects and developers departed Portland, Oregon on April 27th and are due to arrive in Portland Place, London, 76 days and 6575km later. Murray says that “along the way they will visit cities to discuss the benefits of urban cycling and raise money for several architectural charities.”

China Reevers, representative for Linus Bike, a city bike designer, thinks that this new strategy being taken on by young professionals will allow people to see that cycling isn’t just for exercising. “Often times, people hear the word ‘cycling’ and automatically associate it with exercising. While it is a form of exercising, it also is a commuting alternative, helps with sustainability and, as this article proves, is a great way to socialize.”

Linus Bike is a California-based bicycle manufacturer that specializes in creating vintage style city bikes and commuter bikes. Not simply a bicycle company, Linus Bike sells a complete line of accessories for the environmentally conscious and for those who have a fondness for European style bicycles and the great tradition of European cycling.
