HoliVision and Dr. Tideiksaar to collaborate in support of iStand Falls Prevention® Exercise Program and to reduce risk of falls among seniors.

“HoliVision welcomes the expertise of Dr. Tideiksaar in our mission to make an impact on the epidemic of falls among seniors,” says Mazy Holiday, creator of iStand, and founder and COO of HoliVision.

HoliVision LLC, creator of the iStand Falls Prevention® Exercise Program, has announced a partnership with Rein Tideiksaar, Ph.D., PA-C, to engage more seniors in the use of the iStand Program and highlight the importance of fall prevention. iStand is an innovative and first-of-its-kind mobile app that provides exercise routines designed to help minimize the risk of falls for seniors. It is also available in DVD format through Amazon.com.

Dr. Tideiksaar is a fall prevention expert and the president of FallPrevent LLC, a consulting company that provides educational, legal and marketing services related to fall prevention in the elderly. Dr. Tideiksaar is a gerontologist and a geriatric physician's assistant. He has been active in the area of fall prevention for over 30 years, and has directed numerous research projects on falls. He has developed fall prevention programs in the community, assisted living, home care, acute care hospital, and nursing facility settings. Dr. Tideiksaar is also a frequent blogger on the topic of fall prevention for eCareDiary.com, a caregiving website.

“Falls among seniors is an all too common occurrence that must be addressed on a national scale,” says Dr. Tideiksaar. “I am proud to join HoliVision and the iStand program in an effort to direct more attention to this issue and help seniors take the kind of preventive action that iStand delivers. Reducing the risk of falls, and the potential for serious injury and death needs to be a high priority for all of us.”

The iStand program teaches simple activities and movements modeled on Tai Chai and the Otago Exercise Program (OEP) that seniors can perform to improve balance, strength, and awareness - in an effort to minimize their risk of falls. Tai Chi and OEP are two of the most highly-recommended exercise programs in the world and have been shown to improve balance, strength and coordination in seniors. OEP was designed by specialists at Otago University in New Zealand. iStand is structured for both individual and group settings and includes exercise routines that seniors can do at home. Even seniors who are frail will benefit from the stretching and movements as long as they have a caretaker with them. iStand was created to provide seniors with a simple tool so they are less vulnerable to a potentially dangerous fall.

“HoliVision welcomes the expertise of Dr. Tideiksaar in our mission to make an impact on the epidemic of falls among seniors,” says Mazy Holiday, creator of iStand, and founder and COO of HoliVision. His experience and complete understanding of this issue will help direct delivery of the iStand Program to the millions of seniors who are at risk for falls and in need of effective preventive measures.”

One out of three seniors over age 65 falls each year, according to the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), with falls being the number one cause of death from injury among this age group. The death rate from falls among seniors has risen sharply over the past decade and is expected to grow as the population ages.

The iStand mobile app is the first of its kind for a national falls prevention program. The app, available for download from iTunes, was recently given a ‘thumbs up’ rating and recommended for use by The Senior List, a community-driven, online portal focused on linking families to quality products and seniors’ services.

In addition, the iStand program website hosts an online TeleHealth community called HIP (Help. Interact. Prevent.) a feature which allows seniors to engage with each other and with their physical therapist. By logging on to http://www.istandfit.com seniors can report falls to their physical therapist online and discuss their exercise routines and other healthy activities with each other. The iStand DVD is available through Amazon.com. To learn more about the iStand Falls Prevention Exercise Program visit http://www.iStandFit.com.

About HoliVision

HoliVision specializes in falls prevention exercise and education for seniors, and the latest technology and designs in walking aids for rehabilitation and mobility.

Since 2009, the HoliVision team has been busy designing a line of modernized walking aids in an effort to bring canes and walkers out of the Stone Age, and into the modern era of design and technology. Creating more stable and easy-to-use walking aids brought the issue of falls among seniors to the forefront for Ms. Holiday. She recognized that falls prevention for seniors was a critical necessity, and began developing a mobile application that incorporated programs with the highest demonstrated return rate on reducing falls.

Because of the lack of nationwide and organized dissemination of falls prevention programs for seniors, digital technology has become the clear and obvious solution for a segment of the population that has limited income, and often doesn't or cannot leave the house regularly.

An estimated 33 million seniors own a computer, 15 million own a tablet, and most have DVD players with their television. The iStand mobile app is one component of a larger nationwide program that includes physical therapy to be launched later this year. With iStand, a greater number of seniors will now have immediate access to these programs that weren’t so easily available before. HoliVision's iStand Falls Prevention Exercise Program is available in both a mobile app for iPad, and a DVD. http://www.iStandFit.com
