The 3-city live conference and telepresence event produced by EDI and Thomson Reuters was held in New York, Chicago and San Jose and brought together over 200 leading experts in law and technology for an exclusive cross-continental discussion.

Clutch Group, a leading firm dedicated to delivering the professional services for law, is pleased to announce that Michael Sugrue, the Company’s Vice President of Legal and Compliance Solutions, participated and moderated a panel discussing “Intellectual Property: Patent Evolution” at the Consortium on Litigation, Information Law & E-Discovery organized by EDI and Thomson Reuters. The consortium took place yesterday and, for the first time, was broadcast simultaneously in New York, Chicago and San Jose giving participants in all three cities the opportunity to engage in a national conversation on emerging trends and forces shaping the legal industry.

“EDI was proud to organize and take part in this Consortium as we pride ourselves in pioneering the study of the intersection of law and technology,” said Barbara Hanahan, EDI's Director of Communication. “Nothing is more appropriate for us than using a cutting-edge delivery method to bring subject-matter experts, like Clutch Group, together.”

In addition to Mr. Sugrue, the other thought leaders on this three-city telepresence session included: Jon Newcomb, Assistant General Counsel & Chief eDiscovery Counsel, Comcast Cable; Mark Reardon, Litigation Counsel, The Boeing Company; Sriranga Veeraraghavan, Senior Director, Patent Litigation, Tessera; Brad Waugh, Sr. Litigation Attorney, Intel Corp.; and Amr Aly, Partner, Mayer Brown. The topics discussed included: the unique challenges when it comes to controlling costs in IP/Patent Litigation; how to avoid and mitigate eDiscovery difficulties when dealing with NPEs/Patent Trolls; pre-case assessment to effectively manage IP litigation; and successes and failures in using Technology Assisted Review (TAR) in IP litigation.

“Patent litigation is a time-consuming and expensive process, and the discovery process drives a significant portion of that burden. However, discovery related costs and difficulties are not inevitable,” said Sugrue. “My fellow colleagues and I were delighted to have been able to shed light on key strategies in-house counsel can employ in order to drive value and efficiency when litigating a patent suit.”
