Notable 100-Acre Listing Highlighted in the New York Issue

A 100-acre country property listed with Litchfield Hills Sotheby’s International Realty, including an architect-designed residence that blends the traditional with the modern, was recently featured in an article in The Hollywood Reporter’s New York Issue. The special double issue, dated April 16-19, 2013, included the property in its “Style: Homes” section.

The story explored the weekend home market for celebrities and entertainment figures who seek an alternative to the Hamptons. The sidebar compared various second home markets in the Northeast including Litchfield County, Connecticut, and selected this Kent, Connecticut, property as the featured Litchfield County home. Noting that the median list price in December 2012 did not change year over year, the piece mentioned that renowned figures such as Oscar de la Renta and Henry Kissinger live in the area. Ira Goldspiel was included as the listing agent.

“I am thrilled that this outstanding property was chosen to represent the Litchfield County second home market in this prestigious publication,” said Goldspiel. “It is truly a rare property, and very deserving of the recognition. A quiet and discreet paradise offering stunning, distant views and the utmost privacy, this is an estate of enduring design in a spectacular natural setting. The residence displays meticulous artistry, beautifully crafted for modern living.”

The home is approached by a winding, gated drive lined with stone walls. Integrating the indoors and outdoors with walls of windows and doors that bring in the views and light, the residence is surrounded by gardens inspired by those at the Frick Museum. A vanishing-edge saline pool lies to one side. The home was designed by the owner in collaboration with Jamieson Architects, utilizing high-quality materials including a true stucco exterior, a roof of hand-cut wood shingles, imported stone floors with radiant heat, large arched windows and French doors made in Italy, interior walls of Venetian plaster, fireplaces and a stove hood made from recycled French limestone, and hand-stenciled ceilings inspired by the music room at the historic Washington, DC, estate, Dumbarton Oaks. The property also has a gate house and a guest house, with a combined 8,077 square feet between the main and guest houses.

The article additionally focused on the markets of Woodstock, Dutchess County and Southampton, New York, and Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. The cover story of the New York Issue was the 35 Most Powerful People in Media.
