New York, NY (PRWEB) May 02, 2013
Mark Sanchez is by no means promised the starting quarterback position for the New York Jets in the beginning of the 2013 season, but if you ask him, he expects to win it. The Jets have recently let go of Tim Tebow and picked up Geno Smith from West Virginia in the draft. Sanchez will have to fend off Smith, veteran David Gerrard, and third-stringer Greg McElroy in training camp. Sanchez has been with the Jets for four seasons now, and if his position wasn’t in question enough already, bringing on Geno Smith really raised some eyebrows. Sanchez does however know he will have to work hard to get his spot back, and says that the competition will only make him play better. He will have to step up his game though, as last season he threw more interceptions than touchdowns, and then was benched late in the season as McElroy took over. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/sanchez-starting-ready-win-jets-qb-job-article-1.1333260
General Manager of the Jets John Idzik stated that it is an open competition for all spots on the roster, not just quarterback. That rule of competition will not only be throughout the whole year, but for as long as he is GM, and that includes Mark Sanchez. He thinks it will help all the players and make them all better. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/tebow-jets-open-competition-qb-article-1.1330963
