DSS, a provider of innovative IT solutions that drive business value, hosted higher education CIOs and IT Executives at its second annual Tech Summit – Journey Forward on Tuesday, April 23, 2013. This exclusive event, held at The Villanova Conference Center in Radnor, Pa, offered participants from local colleges and universities a unique forum for collaboration and discussion on important topics in higher education IT.
The 2013 agenda included an in-depth look at the key factors influencing the changing landscape of higher education IT, as well as strategies and technologies that can help institutions become more nimble and prepared for the future. With the assistance of the DSS Higher Education Advisory Board (comprised of IT leaders from Villanova University, University of Pennsylvania and The University of Scranton), DSS offered compelling presentations and dialogue on:
- The level of hyper-change in the IT industry and its effects on higher education
- How consumerization, the cloud, virtualization, IT security, and budget constraints are - or are not - impacting the role of the higher education CIO
- Why a strategic vision will be one of the most important qualities a higher education CIO can possess
- What can be gained from leveraging IT Service Management metrics
- Why now is the right time to consider disaster recovery in the cloud
The value of the event is growing. In its sophomore year, attendance for the summit increased by 10 percent, along with a 17 percent increase of public and private institutions represented at the event. Sharing that Journey Forward is one of the best seminars she’s attended, Diana S. H. Bacci, Vice President for Administration and University Registrar at Eastern University, went on to say, “I found the format and content of the program to be relevant and informative. The presenters held my attention the entire morning and Q&A stimulated conversations over lunch. The technology summit is aptly titled 'Journey Forward' because I can envision a future where the CIO is a strategic change agent, improvements are driven by metrics, and campus disaster response plans are updated and rehearsed.”
DSS is committed to serving the higher education IT community with solutions designed to meet the challenges institutions face every day. DSS President Jim Sweeney adds, “We have developed long-term relationships with many colleges and universities in the mid-Atlantic region, and these valuable partnerships have enabled us to provide a unique forum for peer-to-peer discussion. We saw a need for this type of collaborative event and we are proud to be able to host the exchange of ideas.” To learn more about the event and view copies of the presentations, visit DSScorp.com/JourneyForward.
