Cheap Web Designs has been following the development of jQuery 2.0 for some time. The recently released JavaScript jQuery 2.0 library may have just been released, but it’s already made a splash among developers. As reported in Net Magazine by Craig Garnnell, website developers have reacted very positively to the changes in jQuery 2.0. The largest of these changes is that the new library will no longer support older versions of Internet Explorer.

As announced, jQuery 2.0 will only run on Internet Explorer 9. There are several implications from this. First, it means jQuery 1.x will still need to be maintained. Not all ecommerce web designers will want to shift to 2.0 right away if older browser support is still necessary.

On the other hand, developers have been pleased with the reduction of file size. jQuery 2.0 is twelve percent smaller than the last 1.x release because it no longer includes patches for IE 6, 7, or 8. The official JavaScript blog also mentions that Android 2.x support may soon be removed as well, reducing the file size even more and further streamlining the package.

These changes point to web developers overall move towards optimizing sites and content for the most recent versions of web browsers. While this change is very welcome for many, those who do need to continue supporting older versions of Internet Explorer haven’t been left out since jQuery 1.x will continue to be supported and maintained along with 2.x.

Before committing to jQuery 2.0, a business should take a long, hard look at their needs and if these changes will further their needs. “You’ve invested much money, time, and resources in establishing an online presence,” said Samuel Junghenn of Cheap Web Designs. “It’s only natural that you know for certain what it is that you’re actually getting out of these investments.”
