May 7th Event in Nashville Will Feature Dignitaries and a Glimpse into the Mattress Recycling Process

Spring Back Recycling revolves around ‘Breaking down mattresses, building up lives

Today, Spring Back Recycling announced it will celebrate the recycling of its 30,000th mattress on Tuesday, May 7, at a ceremony scheduled at 4 p.m. at the Spring Back Nashville location. The event will feature notable speakers including Kim Brown Knopf, CEO of Sleep Outfitters; Laurel Creech of Mayor Carl Dean’s office; Daron Hall, Davidson County Sheriff; and John Gonas, president of Spring Back Recycling.

Spring Back Recycling was founded in Nashville by Belmont University’s student-led Enactus organization to fulfill the need for better mattress recycling and to keep hazardous mattress materials from landfills. In partnership with Belmont Church’s Isaiah 58 Ministries, the Nashville chapter further developed its mission by creating jobs for formerly incarcerated men in need of employment. Spring Back Recycling contributes much of its growth today through its partnerships with mattress companies, including Sleep Outfitters.

“Spring Back Recycling revolves around ‘Breaking down mattresses, building up lives,’” says Brennon Mobley, Enactus Project Manager. “Through partnerships such as Sleep Outfitters and the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office, Spring Back Nashville has been able to recycle over 30,000 mattresses and impact the lives of countless men. This event celebrates the impact of Spring Back Nashville, as well as the road to come.”

Sleep Outfitters launched a mattress recycling partnership with its Sleep Outfitters Nashville location about a year ago and has since expanded the partnership to many of its other locations, including Sleep Outfitters, Mattress Warehouse and Mattress King stores in Lexington, Ky., Cincinnati, Columbus and Dayton, Ohio, and Huntsville and Birmingham, Ala.

“Sleep Outfitters is incredibly proud to be a sponsor of the Spring Back Recycling program,” said Knopf. “As the program recycles its 30,000th mattress, Sleep Outfitters continues to grow its involvement in the mission to keep mattresses out of landfills.”

The ceremony will take place in the Spring Back Nashville warehouse and will include a glimpse into the mattress recycling process. The Nashville location is at 54 Parris Ave, Nashville, TN, 37210. About Spring Back Recycling

Spring Back Recycling was founded in March 2011 after a need for better mattress recycling was discovered. Mattresses take up a significant amount of waste in landfills, are highly combustible and take nearly 10 years to decompose. Spring Back breaks down used mattresses and utilizes more than 95% of the materials from them. When it was also discovered that the need for mattress recycling was on a national scale, the organization managed to expand its licensees to include Spring Back chapters in Colorado and Tacoma, Washington, and continues to grow.

Since its inception, Spring Back Recycling has partnered with Isaiah 58 to give hope to men seeking employment after prison. Additionally, Spring Back is partnered with Sleep Outfitters, Waste Management, Earth Savers, Sleep Products and the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.
