Healthcare is badly broken and antiquated. It’s ultimate focus is for ongoing treatment rather than curative measures and reversal of ailments. The migration of the baby boom generation will force a greater focus on regenerative treatments.
New York, NY (PRWEB) May 07, 2013
Fred Nazem of Nazem & Company headlined the Ivy Family Office Network New York City Forum with a discussion on “The Future of Health Care Investing.“ The Forum was held on May 2nd in New York City, NY.
According to Mr. Nazem, “We are on the threshold of an era where science and technology can materially and positively impact the quality and longevity of our lives. This era will be pushed by new developments in biology akin to the changes in solid state physics we saw in the 1960s and 70s that led to the creation of companies like Apple and Microsoft.”
He continued, “Healthcare is a badly broken and antiquated system designed to fit the needs of the 1950s rather than today's demands and capabilities. It’s ultimate focus is for ongoing treatment rather than curative measures and reversal of ailments. The present distribution of health expenditures and migration of the baby boom generation into the highest cost demographic will force a greater focus on regenerative rather than palliative treatments. Our current standard of medical implementation is many years behind. While medical knowledge has doubled in the past 10 years our ability to implement solutions has not.“
He finished by saying, “There are great opportunities in healthcare in the form of (1) Regenerative medicine, (2) Personalized or “precision medicine,” (3) Advancements in mobile distribution of that knowledge, and (4) Medical devices used remotely for diagnosis and monitoring of patients and the provision of virtual clinical care with outcomes that rival the current practice of medicine. Over the next two decades, we will witness the emergence of a class of new and powerful entrepreneurial companies that have been inspired if not based on developments in new biology and the other scientific and market developments.”
