Students of distance learning programs work harder than those belonging to more traditional methods of education. Correspondingly, the teachers involved in these programs also have to plan their classes in accordance with the atmosphere of the virtual classroom. Therefore, there arises the possibility of any oversight from both parties that can hinder the educational process.
To address this problem, Buffville High School has launched its Student-Teacher Forum, which is accessible to all students round the clock. Students can voice their concerns about study material, pedagogy, assignments, counseling, lectures and any other area they feel needs the teacher’s attention. The Forum will ensure one-on-one counseling to all the students regardless of their location. It is yet another attempt by the school to facilitate its students and give them the best of education on par with that provided by traditional high schools.
“The Forum will serve the purpose of identifying difficulties students might be facing in the coursework or classes and taking the appropriate steps to rectify them”, the Principal of Buffville High School was quoted as saying.
Meetings are conducted twice a month for two hours consecutively during which students can log in to the Forum and address their issues to a counselor. An email is sent to all the students a week before the next scheduled meeting. During the allocated hours, students can interact with the teachers via live chat or call. Teachers and counselors are always available to attend to the students. The Forum also features a “Suggestions” section where recommendations can be sent anonymously if so desired.
The school is also currently working on updating its archives for ease of reference for students. The archives will be accessible after school hours and even on weekends. The archive contains documents, audio and video material from classroom sessions arranged by date and time. Buffville High School is taking these measures to make sure its students are consistently receiving the best of education.
