Lisa C. McCurdy, an attorney in the Litigation Department of international law firm Greenberg Traurig, has been elected to the Board of Directors of the Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest (CSNW).
McCurdy, who is based in the firm’s Los Angeles office, focuses her practice on trust and probate litigation, complex business litigation, real estate and financing litigation, and consumer protection claims. She has wide-ranging experience in both federal and state court, as well as in administrative proceedings and regulatory investigations. McCurdy also practices in the area of animal protection law, regularly litigating cases on behalf of animal protection groups and individuals, and working on improving legislation and educating the community in an effort to improve the treatment of animals.
In addition to her work with the Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest, McCurdy serves as Board President and Commissioner of the Los Angeles Animal Services Commissioners and as Vice-Chair, Animal Law Committee, of the American Bar Association's Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section.
According to its website, the Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest (CSNW) is located on a 26-acre farm in the Cascade Mountains, due east of Seattle. CSNW is one of only nine sanctuaries in the country that cares for chimpanzees. CSNW was founded in 2003 to provide sanctuary for chimpanzees discarded from the entertainment and biomedical testing industries and whose goals are to provide sustainable sanctuary, end the use of great apes in entertainment, and facilitate collaboration to continuously improve the care of captive chimpanzees.
