Portland, OR (PRWEB) May 07, 2013
In continuation of its avid support for the web design and developer communities, Extensis® announced its web font service WebINK® is sponsoring WebVisions Portland 2013, held at the Oregon Convention Center May 22-24, 2013. WebINK is also sponsoring a special “Hackathon” event conducted at WebVisions Portland to help benefit local non-profit organizations.
The internationally recognized WebVisions conference explores the future of web and mobile design, content creation, user experience and business strategy in an event that inspires learning, collaboration and entrepreneurism. The event includes interactive presentations from leading web and mobile experts – many of the people most actively involved in guiding and thinking about the way the web is used and experienced.
Extensis’ resident font experts will join these leaders, delivering presentations and workshops exploring the latest trends in typography.

“Font Detective, Extra Bold”
Tuesday, May 15
6:30pm – 9:00pm
Resident font guru Thomas Phinney will discuss and show evidence from several of the cases he has been called into as a typographic consultant, including a forged will, legislated point size requirements, a seemingly fake rabbi, and the forged documents about President Bush’s National Guard service. Attendees will learn how mistakes in typography, printing and font selection ruined what could have otherwise been perfectly good forgeries.
“Hackathon for Social Good”
Sunday, May 19, 2013
9:00a.m. - 6:00p.m.
Participants in the Hackathon will use WebINK’s thousands of web fonts to build sites and web applications to help benefit non-profit organizations including The Dalai Lama Center, Dress for Success, Habitat for Humanity (Re)Store and Compassion & Choices.
“90% of Design is Typography: A Hands-on Guide to Great Web Fonts and Typography”

Phinney and Jim Kidwell will conduct an immersive, hands-on workshop on using CSS3 typographic controls to create great web typography, from the basics of ideal type setting to enabling custom web fonts with @font-face. A live web site will be provided for each participant to practice and experiment on, along with access to WebINK web fonts.
“Typography is the New Black”
Friday, May 24, 2013
11:15a.m. – 12:00p.m.
In recent years, web and motion designers have woken to the power and centrality of typography in visual communication. Kidwell presents an array of the best cutting-edge typography, alongside a few cautionary tales of how crap typography can contradict a message or damage a brand.
