"We (at Everest) have recently expanded our entire music curriculum, and the students have responded with great enthusiasm," explained Mrs. Tiffany Iwinski of Mokena, music teacher at Everest.

Violins, ukuleles, recorders, beautiful voices, and the new instrumental band were all in tune at the “Musical Tribute to Mothers” as part of the celebration of Mother's Day and the Crowning of Mary at Everest Academy in Lemont. Students from preschool through eighth grade performed musical numbers for an audience of 250 mothers and students this week at Everest.

“It was the best musical performance I have ever seen at the school. Both the instrumentals and the voices were so beautiful” proclaimed Mrs. Mary De Roche, mother of a seventh grader and mother of the second grade teacher at Everest, “This is amazing. It brings tears to my eyes – the students are so impressive.”

“We have recently expanded our entire music curriculum, and the students have responded with great enthusiasm,” explained Mrs. Tiffany Iwinski of Mokena, music teacher at Everest. “We have new violins, ukuleles and xylophones to add to our recorders and rhythm instruments.” “Everest’s mission is to provide academic excellence and prepare children as leaders in society, and part of the development of the whole person includes the fine arts, especially music,” stated Ms. Christine Gamache, Principal.

Band director at Everest, Mr. James Rallis, directed the fourth through eighth grade band members in performances that included “Ode to Joy,” “March of the Kangaroos,” and “We Will Rock You.” All of the seventh and eighth grade students at Everest study the violin as a regular part of the music curriculum. The class performed “Jacques Offenbach’s Orpheus” and “A Joyful Chorale.” Fifth and sixth grade students at Everest learn to play the ukulele in music class, and performed three songs for their mothers, including “Rocky Mountain,” “Acadian Lullaby” and “Oh, Suzanna!” Third and fourth graders performed “When the Saints Go Marching In” and “Amazing Grace” on their recorders.

Preschool and Kindergarten students sang to their mothers, songs that included the parody of “Mommy Loves Me” and the beautiful old time song “Momma, You’re My Favorite Gal.” First and second graders sang, “In a Mother’s Heart”, which did bring many mothers to tears.

All mothers of Everest students were invited to spend the morning at the school on Friday beginning with Mass, followed by a beautiful ceremony of the Crowning of Our Blessed Mother Mary the Mother of God, followed by refreshments and the Musical Tribute to their Mothers.
