Broadview Mortgage has received word that a Broadview Scholar, Alessa Jonas, is running in the Santa Barbara Half-Marathon in honor of her dog Jei-Li. The event takes place on May 11, 2013.

The Team ASPCA Half-Marathon raises funds for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). A not-for-profit organization that is considered to be the first and largest humane society in the world.

The mission of the ASPCA resonates with Jonas' personal values. One of the motivations behind her entering the race? Jonas saved her dog Jei-Li from an abusive environment and is passionate about helping other dogs as well.

"Broadview Mortgage is passionate about education and helping our scholars further their education. When they go a step further and empower their community, we take pride in that," says Chris Apodaca, Assistant Director of Branch Development for Broadview Mortgage.

Jonas received a $1,000 merit-based scholarship from Broadview Mortgage in December, 2012. Chief among the qualifying requirements are community service. "When I heard one of our Broadview Scholars was doing this, we wanted to encourage her involvement." says Apodaca, "which is why I'm happy to announce that we are going to contribute $500 to this noble cause. We ask that all of our business partners, clients, and other branches donate as well."

Jonas hopes to achieve her goal of $1,700 in order to further Team ASPCA's cause.
