Mt. Kisco, New York (PRWEB) May 14, 2013
The Clinical Trials Program at Northern Westchester Hospital is pleased to announce an extended enrollment period for a total knee replacement pain management clinical trial.
Also known as “The PACIRA Trial,” this study seeks to evaluate the safety, efficacy and pharmacokinetics of a single injection femoral nerve block with liposome bupivacaine for post-operative pain for patients undergoing a total knee replacement.
Total knee arthroplasty, or knee replacement surgery, is one of the most common joint replacement procedures and is performed on over 600,000 people worldwide each year.
The PACIRA Trial is a multicenter, randomized, double-blind, parallel-group, placebo-controlled, dose-ranging study to evaluate the safety, efficacy and pharmacokinetics of a single injection femoral nerve block with liposome bupivacaine for post-operative pain for patients undergoing a total knee arthroplasty.
Enrollment for the PACIRA Trial will end October 2013.
There are several eligibility criteria for the Pacira trial; including the following:
- Age 18+ undergoing a primary unilateral total knee arthroplasty under general or spinal anesthesia
- Patient must weigh more than 110 lbs
- No previous participation in liposome bupivacain studies
Dr. Stuart Styles, Co-Director of Joint Replacement Surgery, Orthopedic and Spine Institute is the Principal Investigator for the PACIRA Trial along with Co-Investigator Dr. Christie Sasso.
