La Cuisine Paris is introducing four programs that explore culinary treasures in Paris few visitors have seen – a secret garden at Versailles; the city’s oldest food markets; and the favorite food, sweets, cheese, and cooking equipment shops of the city’s top chefs.
La Cuisine Paris was founded in 2009 by Chicago native Jane Bertch and her Parisian French husband Olivier Pugliesi-Conti. It is virtually the only English-language cooking school in Paris dedicated entirely to offering the variety of cooking, baking, culinary tours, and technical skills classes for non-professionals.
The Garden of the King -- A visit to the 17th Century Kitchen Garden of Versailles: Millions of visitors to Paris visit the Palace of Versailles every year but few know of its kitchen garden, created for Louis XIV, where more than 300 varieties of fruits and vegetables flourish in a micro climate that dramatically changed what was served at the king’s table and where advanced techniques for gardening were invented. Guests visit the local market, tasting and collecting items for the ‘aperitif’ part of their lunch. Travelers then enjoy a four-course set meal with wine at a favorite local restaurant. The experience will end at around 2 pm where guests receive a ticket to visit the Château of Versailles during the rest of the afternoon, and a return ticket for the train ride back to Paris. French Cheese Workshop and Tasting with Leading Affineur/Fromager -- Cheese expert Baptiste Yapar, will take guests through a class from creation to degustation. He will explain the history of cheese, the production process and how to identify types and ages of cheese by appearance and taste. Guests will taste seven of Baptiste’s favorites, accompanied by wine, enjoyed in La Cuisine Paris’ Parisian Cave. WHEN: Every Thursday from 4-6 pm through June 27. COST: 75 Euros
Sugar Walk of the Marais – This “Path to Paris Pastries” takes place in the Marais district, known as the hotbed of French pastry. The tour takes in more than 10 sweet spots, including La Cuisine’s favorite places for brioche, praline, a chocolate boutique, a traditional boulangerie-patisserie, and two international pastry boutiques. All along the way goodies will be acquired, as the program ends with a tasting at the La Cuisine kitchen. WHEN: Every Friday 2:30 – 5:30 pm through July 19. COST: 95 Euros
Bellies on Foot – A culinary and cultural tour of Les Halles, long known as the “belly of Paris”. Guests will visit La Cuisine’s favorite French cooking equipment store, shop for the city’s best fois gras, and visit a fromage store, a patisserie-boulangerie, and a boucherie-charcuterie, all favorites with the chefs of La Cuisine Paris. Samples purchased along the way will sampled in the La Cuisine Paris kitchens. WHEN: Every Wednesday 2:30 – 5:30 through July 24. COST: 95 Euros.
