After opening in March, Lucky Guy is living up to its name on Broadway. The new play performed to over 100 percent capacity again last week, as per box office data tracked by entertainment-link.com.
Plus, the production has already picked up six Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Play; and its limited engagement at the Broadhurst Theatre was just recently extended to July 3, 2013.
Two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks, also nominated for a Tony in his Broadway debut, plays controversial tabloid columnist Mike McAlary – set against the backdrop of a scandal-ridden, graffiti-scarred New York City in the 1980s.
Written by Nora Ephron, the play is directed by two-time Tony Award-winning Director George C. Wolfe.
As per press notes, the play "dramatizes the story of Mike McAlary’s meteoric rise, fall, and rise again, ending with his coverage of the Abner Louima case for which he won the Pulitzer Prize shortly before his untimely death on Christmas Day 1998."

Vance), Best Scenic Design of a Play, Best Lighting Design of a Play, and Best Direction of a Play (George C. Wolfe). Wolfe already has two Tonys for his direction of Angels in America: Millennium Approaches in 1993 and Bring in 'da Noise/Bring in 'da Funk in 1996.
The new musical has also received a 2013 Drama Desk Nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Play (Tom Hanks); and two 2013 Outer Critics Circle Nominations for Outstanding New Broadway Play and Outstanding Actor in a Play (Tom Hanks). Hanks won the Golden Globe and Academy Awards for "Philadelphia" in 1993 and for "Forrest Gump" in 1994.
Author Nora Ephron – a prolific and popular journalist, essayist, playwright, screenwriter, novelist and three-time Academy Award nominee – passed away in June 2012.
