Lucky Guy starring Tom Hanks in his Broadway debut played to 100.7 percent capacity last week, said Felina Martinez at The Tony-nominated play about controversial columnist Mike McAlary, now on a limited run at the Broadhurst, has been extended through July 3, 2013.

Plus, the production has already picked up six Tony Award nominations, including one for Best Play; and its limited engagement at the Broadhurst Theatre was just recently extended to July 3, 2013.

Two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks, also nominated for a Tony in his Broadway debut, plays controversial tabloid columnist Mike McAlary – set against the backdrop of a scandal-ridden, graffiti-scarred New York City in the 1980s.

Written by Nora Ephron, the play is directed by two-time Tony Award-winning Director George C. Wolfe.

As per press notes, the play "dramatizes the story of Mike McAlary’s meteoric rise, fall, and rise again, ending with his coverage of the Abner Louima case for which he won the Pulitzer Prize shortly before his untimely death on Christmas Day 1998."

The new musical has also received a 2013 Drama Desk Nomination for Outstanding Actor in a Play (Tom Hanks); and two 2013 Outer Critics Circle Nominations for Outstanding New Broadway Play and Outstanding Actor in a Play (Tom Hanks). Hanks won the Golden Globe and Academy Awards for "Philadelphia" in 1993 and for "Forrest Gump" in 1994.
