Directors Bring Extensive Healthcare and Education Knowledge to IDentity Theft 911 Board

Directors bring decades of knowledge and expertise in healthcare, higher education, credit and identity management.

IDentity Theft 911, a leader in identity management and data risk management services, today announced another high profile addition to its Board of Directors. Herb Pardes, M.D. joins David H. Cohen, PhD, and the company’s long-time Chairman and Co-Founder, Adam K. Levin. Together, these three directors bring to the board decades of knowledge and expertise in the healthcare, higher education, credit and identity management sectors.

According to Levin, “This is an ongoing effort to align the skills of the outside directors more closely with the current and planned strategic objectives of the company.”

In 2012, healthcare providers and educational institutions were plagued by a record number of breaches -- exposing the personal identifying information of millions to identity thieves. Compromised institutions face significant reputational damage and harsh regulatory response as well as the enormous expense associated with damage control and litigation preparation and defense.

The Ponemon Institute recently reported in its "Annual Benchmark Study on Patient Privacy & Data Security" that 94% of health organizations sampled had at least one data breach in the past two years, and nearly half have had more than five incidents in the same period at an average cost of $2.4 million per breach. University attacks, like the string of hacks affecting more than 100 major institutions last year, have exposed the sensitive data of millions.

Pardes and Cohen to advise our company on how best to capitalize on these opportunities,” said Levin. “Both have a proven track record of successfully growing enterprises and a history of productively working together in senior administration at Columbia University and at the Association of American Medical Colleges where each has held the elected office of Chairman of the Association.”

Dr. Cohen spent 17 years in university senior administration. From 1986 to 1995 he served as Vice President for Research, then Provost at Northwestern University and from 1995 to 2003 as Vice President and Dean of the Faculty for Arts and Sciences at Columbia University. Dr. Cohen is currently Vice President and Dean of the Faculty Emeritus, Alan H. Kempner Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences, and Professor Emeritus of Neuroscience in Psychiatry at Columbia University. He has been a consultant for the National Institutes of Health, the National Science Foundation, the Department of Defense, and the National Academy of Sciences. He has served on a number of for-profit and not-for-profit boards and currently is a director of Eduventures and Oaktree Educational Partners.

Dr. Pardes currently serves as Executive Vice Chairman of the Board of New York-Presbyterian Hospital, where he was previously its president and CEO. Under his leadership, New York-Presbyterian rose to become one of the most highly regarded and comprehensive health care institutions in the world. The hospital is top-ranked in the New York metropolitan area and is consistently ranked among the best academic medical institutions in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report. Prior to his tenure at New York-Presbyterian, Dr. Pardes was Vice President for Health Sciences of the Columbia University Medical Center and Dean of the School of Medicine. He served as Assistant U.S. Surgeon General and Director of the National Institute of Mental Health (1978-1984). Also, he was President of the American Psychiatric Association.
